it will remain a problem, as long as the U.S. can't achieve a bipartisan understanding that health care - in general - should be a human right and affordable for every citizen.

Blaming mental health problems on gun violence is pathetic!
(Japan has depressed people and zero mass shootings!)
It's the guns!
(The rest of the world!)

It needs to be discussed, but not solely on mass shootings😢

Only knowing our two main political parties can work together already reduces stress in our daily lives. Thanks.

Unfortunately, everyone is right in this situation. It is about mental health, it is about guns, it’s about addiction, and alienation, everyone is right about all the contributing factors.

Not surprised at the level of mental health issues when school kids have shooter drills in school & the level of mass shootings! Health insurance and gun safety laws need to be addressed if the death rate by guns is to be reduced. Perhaps if less publicity is given to advocates of “the right to bear arms of all denominations”, the attraction of weapons meant for the battlefield will lessen too

As we move forward we need to watch out for scams.

Here we go again just all talk, no action. Many people don’t have healthcare insurance to pay for this, but I guess disarming the public of their machine guns it’s just too distasteful for Americans. The countries that don’t have these guns on the streets do not have massacres.

Look the people responsible for the mental health crisis are doing some talking.

NBC, you should work with prevention scientists for a follow-up piece. Discuss risk and protective factors, esp during key periods of development. For instance, discuss the links between later mental health and child maltreatment and family income. How is mental health related to housing instability and food insecurity? Talk with the real experts, NBC, and confront those in power with those facts.
