Beethoven's first two symphonies both foreshadow his later development of his music. Just like Beethoven said as he was writing this symphony, it is clearly demonstrates that he followed the model set in place by Haydn and Mozart since he knew that was what people expected a symphony to sound like in 1800. Within a few years, starting with his Third Symphony, he turned that completely around writing music completely by his own standards.
