Electric Light Orchestra - Xanadu

Originally the track "Xanadu" was a major hit for Olivia Newton-John in 1980, as it featured in the movie of the same name. I hadn't heard this much later (2005) version by ELO themselves, before.

The video includes images from the 1941 movie "Citizen Kane", which I probably consider to be the best movie ever made. The connection is that the movie is based on the life of William Randolph Hearst, and the extraordinary mansion and estate built by the Hearst character (Charles Foster Kane - played by Orson Welles, who also directed the movie) is called "Xanadu"

The real-life Xanadu, Hearst Castle, was built by Hearst at San Simeon, high above the California coast about halfway between San Francisco and LA, starting in 1919 (he never really completed it). He had an amazing collection of antiquities from all over the world, and even a private zoo. It's an incredible place, which I was lucky enough to visit some years ago.

I do like Citizen Kane, but I have just one problem with it. Who heard him say 'Rosebud'? No one was in the room, he was alone when he died. It couldn't have ben the nurse, she came into the room too late. Just a thought. Still a good movie though
