“Some men have attained the title and have been called great, but who mainly have only been great in crime and blood, or striking their results; A Henry, A Caesar, A Pompey, A Bonaparte. But how poor the glory, and how blood stained the honor? How many curses must be loaded onto their names in the world of spirits? We want no more such great ones.” - The war with Mexico reviewed, , by Abiel Livermore

Pompey was ambitious, for sure, but also different. He craved glory and recognition, not supreme political power. In the Sertorian War, Pirate War and the Eastern Settlement, he displayed great judgement and administrative talent. He could have seized dictatorial power a few times, but never did. He beat Caesar at the Battle of Dyrrhachium, and could have finished the war, but he was too cautious. There were also many senators in Pompey's camp, all the while giving their "advice" for Pompey to offer Caesar open battle at Pharsalus. Pompey had reservations, and was reluctant. He deserved better, and was a great Roman. Cheers.

Great video! Did Julius Caesar not offer that both Pompey and himself disband their armies and retire? Yet Pompey did refuse and a battle ensued. As Julius Caesar did cross the Rubicon?

No one offers me their daughter's hand in marriage. I wish Pompey taught a course.

just a small detail-i’m not sure if it was Sulla who awarded Pompey’s second triumph as he had died almost a decade earlier in 78BC, but i can’t find who it was instead!

Your mistake, you should only tell real history and what really happen and should not include your personal opinion and comments.
