In this video, Joe Navarro delves into the concept of automatic, primary responses—instinctive behaviors that help us survive and communicate. He explains how these responses are hardwired into our biology, allowing us to react quickly to danger and express our emotions or thoughts without even thinking about it. Joe highlights the significance of these reactions in both personal safety and non-verbal communication, shedding light on how they shape our everyday interactions.

Spot on Joe! Is there ever a situation where our natural reaction is to move closer as opposed to move further away for survival?

My freeze response is so full on now it can go for days. I will totally shut down where I am too scared to literally move a muscle. But what I find happens in these freeze states, is whilst I am getting non stop flashbacks, it also enables me to sort of mentally filter through all these memories and sometimes find answers to things I didn't notice or understand when my life was under actual immediate threat. If I am busy doing every day tasks for example, my mind is distracted and unable to focus on the past trauma. But when I go into full shut down mode not moving, my mind is busy while awake with flashbacks and filtering, but also getting some mental respite as I sleep more when I am in freeze shut down. Sleep and dreams in this shut down state also help me process the sometimes still ongoing non stop threats to my life and safety due to serious injuries and ongoing stalking by an ex partner.

Sir, I request you to think of this situation and offer a practical solution. "Imagine being backstage, the previous speaker finishes, heart beats faster and your name is called, heart pounds, you walk onstage, you don't make eye contact, shaky legs, cracky voice, forced smile, audience focused on your nerves, not your words. You've said you still get nervous, but sir I've seen tons of your calm speeches (100+ on my YouTube playlist!). So, sir how can I avoid this kind of situation?"

Covering the head behavior reminds me of Chris Watts’s reaction to his neighbors surveillance video.

Thank you Joe - I am always appreciate to hear about your knowledge ☺💫💛💫
Just about information - I can't "like" some videos or "comment" on them - I don't know why. Often with your new videos. I'm in Germany.

I just saw your Steven Bartlett interview, geat! How about the fawn response, eg in late-diagnosed aspergers? I got verbal & head tics during my burnout 5y ago when diagnosed, I turn 50 soon. Dr Lisa Feldman Barrett says some indigenous tribes simply sleep when they feel anxious.

Freeze, faint, flight, fight, & fawn. My mother would fawn over my father in an attempt to defuse his temper.

Hello, I have multiple questions after reading your book on Catching Terrorists. There seemed to be some logical issues especially what was said about 9/11. I did email you but received no response. Thanks.

My narcissist ex stole my identity, lied to our community to ruin my reputation, tortured and killed my pets, filed 47 false police reports on me, and continued to harass and stalk me to where I eventually was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease because of the fear and stress. I’ve been unable to find a lawyer to represent me, as he’s tied to law enforcement. Please help me. In SD ❤❤ (he did the same to his ex-wife, and she died at 32)
