I was born with scoliosis which is probably called congenital scoliosis. My mother took me to the Shriner's Hospital in Dallas Texas and they operated on me as an toddler. It corrected the issues I had and have been scoliosis free for many many years!!! Thank God my mother was forward thinking and had me treated!!!😊😊😊❤❤❤

Very insightful.
I had congenital scoliosis. ( To the people that don't know. Congenital means I was born with it)
I spend 5 years of my first years in plaster casts. This was 1990 and this surgery was in its early stages and didn't have a great success rate so my mum opted for casts. I had a hole at my stomach region, when I ate my stomach would come out. Food use to get trapped down there and it stunk.
When the cast came off I tore chunks out my skin because of how itchy it was with the fresh air hitting it.
I obviously don't remember this and this is what my mother told me.
It's now recovered but every so often I get really bad pains and I'm not allowed to do heavy lifting jobs.
To my scoliosis brothers and sisters. I love you and take care.

Wow! I can't believe this was recommended to me. Well over a decade ago, I used to spend many long Friday evenings watching Dr. Kim perform spinal fusions to correct scoliosis. I was a young c-arm/o-arm tech. Dr. Kim was the most attentive and confident surgeon I've ever encountered.

I have scoliosis and kyphosis. I was told as a kid I would grow out of it. The pain got worse, when I brought it up to my old pcp he said I was “too young for back pain” I switched my pcp after getting new insurance and found out I have a 78 degree curve. The orthopedic surgeon said I will need a full spinal fusion. Unfortunately he passed away, Im getting facet joint injections to hold me over but scared about the fusion. Has anyone else had the fusion done?

My scoliosis was caused by a tomour growing inside the spine at the spine cord, which paralysed the spine muscles & so it collapsed under the weight of my torso. Actually the first case like that in germany, if not more. So just keep in mind that everything can happen & there is a fair chance you (very hopeful won't!) can get something nobody ever had. Stay safe and pleass take care

In 7th grade at gym, when yiu bend over and they look at your back to see the S shaped spine. I was put in "corrective" PE all through school. I no longer have Scoliosis. One girl had the spine surgery.

I have scoliosis, but it’s because of my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) causes back pain, muscle tightening and stiffness as hard as rocks. Knots. And cramp.

Interesting to know we have a month. 79 degree curve at 14 years old. 2 Harrington rods, 12 fused vertebrae and a skilled surgeon fixed me up. I’m 35 now. I have arthritis in the discs below the fusion but that’s a small price to pay for having a functional life.

How would being aware of any of the illnesses or deformities help anything

Thank you, I have a recent adult diagnosis. It does not show in standing images. It showed up on my prone CT Mylogram. I will be having a cervical fusion, over four levels. I had two artificial discs placed in my neck and one works perfect, while the other has too much motion.
