As far as I'm concerned an e scooter should not be on the road. It is a tpy, not a vehicle they have no lights and the idiots who use them don't wear safety or reflective gear and mostly have no road experience. They are the biggest hazard on the road. Just start thinking of these idiots as organ donors and you don't feel so bad for them

All of you should remember that a lot of the driving laws were written for the conditions of the time and not everything is updated to be realistic. Alot of driving laws or vehicle standards are created due to prevalence of new issues that have been happening for some time. Some proceses taught today simply aren't realistically enough to ensure you will see a cyclist or escooter at speed while focusing on other traffic conditions and many drivers who are given a passing grade would have made this mistake but were fortunate enough not to run into a hard to see cyclist or escooter at a particular junction.

A blindspot check is a glance because a car is a massive multi tonne vehicle and your eyes should be focused on where you are traveling instead of where you are not for the vast majority of the time. Bikes are small and people on them can blend into the road.

A quick blindspot check is safe and standard because until recently, you'd have to miss seeing an entire car. Issues with cyclists and escooters on the road are not so much the fault of a driver but a fault of the system.

That by no means justifies a passing grade but the role of road safety lies with legislators and traffic engineers as well as drivers.

Cyclists have been awkwardly retrofitted onto roads never designed for them and the drivers now sharing the road with them recieved their license and training often before these new commuters would become prevalent enough on the road to create a new form of danger.

Stop villifying drivers for a problem legislators have exacerbated. Laws are approximate fixes to issues with the interactions of large groups. Yet somehow people act like every violation in a regulated space is a character flaw instead if considering that the metrics for violation or the tools provided to help avoid violation may be inadequate.
