We used to think neural circuits were rigid and robotic, but now we know that's not true -- thanks to crab stomachs.

Scientists losing their minds over crabs' continued crabbing has got to be one of my favorite reoccuring themes

Would love to see coverage of the gentleman who, after being paralyzed for a dozen years after a bike accident, recently underwent an experimental procedure where doctors essentially connected his brain and spine with bluetooth, reimplementing his ability to walk, move, and feel across his body. While he isn’t running marathons just yet, it’s so cool to see science giving him back so much, especially after so long!

That's absolutely fascinating! We already knew that crabs were awesome, but we didn't know to which extent. Our camera crew was in Brazil and managed to get on camera how brilliant crabs are when it comes to survival. It's super interesting to see how these crustaceans eat, scape and manage to survive in harsh conditions.

Science isn't just about using our brains to understand how cancers work and how to deal with it, it's also about using cancers to understand how our brains work and how to deal with it.

Crabs continue to show us how they’re the ideal form.

"It's functional compensation. When the human brain is damaged, sometimes it recovers over time. Other parts of the brain take over the functions of the damaged parts."

I love the Pizza John shirt. And crabs. Cancer is inevitable.

Great presentation! It's interesting how we thought the nervous system worked like a computer and now the nervous system is inspiring new computer designs that might some day help us overcome Moore's Law for some types of tasks.

I don't know why, but I can just *hear* the crab rave throughout the video even though there's no music lol

I was thinking about strokes while listening to this video. I wish there had been a way to reroute the physical issues my mom had after her stroke. Also, the mental deterioration.

This is an excellent summary of the STG work. Same circuit, different behaviors.

In the 90's in Brazil a very interisting musical and artistic movement called Manguebeat emerged and their manifesto was called Crabs with brains (Caranguejos com cérebro). You guys nailed the manguebeat thumbnail art!
