When I gained weight from a medication. My old psych nurse and primary treated me different judging me for the weight gain. And they were the ones monitoring my health! They should have caught it! They acted like it was strictly cuz of me and what I ate. Once I stopped the medication (which I had to fight for and they were irritated with me) I actually started eating more cuz of added depression from how they made me feel about the weight yet the weight went on slower!!! It's almost like it was never about what I was eating!!!

Thank you for addressing this subject Dr. Marks. I was not told about the weight gain side effect by any psychologist that had ever prescribed them. I am still fighting the long term weight gain.

It was Abilify for me. It works great for me though so I have a strict diet.

I just want to get better . Period… I know my issue is all based on debt… if I could just clear up my $70k I would probably be 1000% better! Ugh. I take bupropion, Vyvanse, and Metformin but gained weight. I was told by my MD to do weight watchers. Frustrating that my ADHD isn’t taken seriously in regards to how it affects my eating.

I take buproprion & topiramate, for 5 months, I lost weight. Did great for my depression & migraines so far, now I only have mild burning feeling, neck, lower back of skull tension. I don't like taking meds., but no side affects beside weight loss, was at 170lb>, now I'm at <150ish, as a man, did a lot of biking, resting, before headaches intensity broke. I can feel my spinal column and pelvis sticking out, it's disturbing to me, have more energy, better mood. May have a deviated septum that contributed to this, have to get it fixed. Diet is fair. In good condition.

I’m on paroxetine and mirtazapine all my life I was built like a greyhound but since dr added the mirtazapine in 4 years have put on 80 lbs I feel horrible and am over life. 3 weeks ago I stopped the mirtazapine over a week now just can’t get out of bed. I’m hoping that I will be back to the point of walking soon so I can start losing weight

at first duloxetine took away appetite, but now it is making me have terrible cravings for carbs and sweets and also alcohol. So I skipped a dose and for that day the cravings subsided and I was able to control my appetite.

Sadly we’re a nation of obesity but not taking psychotropic meds is not an option for some weight loss should be an non issue
