Hands-On: DJI Inspire 1 Mount Handheld Gimbal Camera

Quadcopter maker DJI loaned us a prototype of their upcoming Inspire 1 Mount--an accessory for the gimbaled camera that comes with their latest quad. We take the mount and camera to roam the floor at CES, testing the stability and video quality of this camera setup. The results were pretty good!

Excellent coverage and fair dues to DJI for always pushing things forward.

A single axis gimbal on the phone mount/view finder would be great for keeping it within sight of the user. You could even go as far as using the front facing camera from the phone along with some facial tracking to aid the experience.

This is awesome! with some improvements in video quality this could easily be used in major motion pictures, it looks like you could be a lot more creative and free with the movement then the steady cam and Norm did a great job with the shots.

Why doesn't this exist on its own already? It looks like a wonderful device with stand alone prospects. It replicates that strange pan than quad video has. Very cool!

Some sections looked like they were captured using a quad, esp when Will moved one way around an obstacle, and Norm tracked him. That, and a long pole could replicate some quad angles, without the need for the quad :-)

Just got the DJI Inspire and the camera is amazing. Specially compared to the Hero 4. I have that too. Much better in low light than Hero 4. The quality on low light at 4k is almost of a Canon 5d Mark III in 1080. You just have to play with the camera settings and learn how to work  and get the results you want with it.  The camera its even more amazing on day light.

I think it would be good to have an option where the camera doesn't move at all and just acts like a regular video camera with a fixed lens. Just so you can cover all the bases, maybe I'm not looking into this all the way though.

This looks really cool but I wonder what the best way is to make use of the external audio. For example, where would you place an external mic, such as the video-mic pro?

I dislike the bluetooth connection = short videos. Hoping for different connection options in the future.

If the iPhone is connected wireless you can have someone to hold it for you and keep the subject in the middle while you walking with it that would be amazing :). Also do you have to own the quad it self to buy this ?
