ok... trick that learned from an industry pro back in the days when I was going for my 3D animation degree, plus my own experience (Maya user since Maya7):

1-) This trick is similar to proxy mode, but this works in the event your rig doesn't have a proxy mode: Have 2 different skins for animation on each own layer, and hide the one you are not using atm. One for rendering and doing a quick check on your animations (with skin deformations applied), and one just for animation (no skin deformations. Just chop up your model at the joints and attach those pieces to the corresponding bone). You can animate so fast without having to wait for Maya to calculate skin deformations or proxy mode. I learned this from a guy that worked on several Hollywood films that visited my school back in the day.

2-) 6:35 I create a layer in the display tab (bottom right menu) and hide it that way. Its faster for me as I don't have to open extra menus to make an object visible again. The best part is that I can make the object 'transparent' (wireframe) so I can still see where everything is. You don't want to animate a scene just to realize your character is walking thru a piece of furniture you forgot it was there or something like that. You don't have to 'guess' or have to constantly turn visibility on and off to know where everything is this way. This is specially good when animating multiple characters or objects in the scene. Is your character dodging tons of flying objects coming toward him/her? place the flying objects in a layer in 'transparency' mode, and start animating without all the extra objects in your screen slowing Maya down.

I hope this information helps anybody. See ya!

I thought I'm gonna be forced to find a rig with proxy, but with your tips I just went from 15 FPS (without textures) to 60 (even with them!) 😍 THANK YOU!!!

11:15 for those who have a lower version of Maya 2019, but also have Animbot, the way you can do the same is select a curve, click on the three dots on the Animbot screen right toolbar> Anim Curve Tools> Remove Static Animation Curves.
Remove Redundant Keys is also a great one.

Rendering on my laptop is almost impossible. Improving the playblast quality is working just fine for me. All my videos are playblast generated in Maya. Thanks to this guy.
