I absolutely agree with you. Judith Anderson would have been a better option.

Major mistake to cast Paxinou as Christine. In the play she is described as 'foreign-looking', but she is definitely American. Mannon would never have married an exotic foreign woman. Against the Civil War background, Paxinou sticks out like a sore thumb.
