Yes people do want you to fail. Harvard resesrch shows the #1 emotion behind stress is not fear - it's ENVY. The antidote to envy is gratitude. That is why gratitude practice is so important. It's not about count your blessings, it's about i'm ok relative to the next guy.

Had a phase where I was always stressing about getting fired. Even the tiniest mistake had me up all night worrying. Over time I started getting better at thingsbut still ended up getting fired anyway. Honestly, just chill and do your best. Work on yourself and no one can stop you from being successful
