Yes, I'm gonna sound old. You kids these days have no idea how exciting it was watching Messi every week. There's literally nothing like it.

I grew up in the 90s as a kid. Was a teen in the 2000s and as an adult I got to see Messi destroy teams. I had seen players like Zidane in their prime, I'd seen Bergkamp, Henry, Pirlo, Scholes. I'd also seen the end of Maradona's career when I was very young, but I was too young to really understand what was going on. However, I've also watched a lot of old footage on VHS tapes of Maradona and Pele which my grandpa had.

There was just nobody like Messi. Not just based on his numbers. But mostly due to the way he played the game. Messi at his peak around 2011 wasn't the ''walking around'' Messi. It was the Messi that would press, defend, dribble past entire teams, force an entire team to park the bus, still dribble past them, score from any angle, give assists from any angle. Defenders would be deadly afraid to defend him.

I vividly remember being on football forums at the end of the 2000s and the beginning of the 2010s and we were all talking how he could be the best ever, but that he needed at least 4 seasons to prove himself to be really cemented as the best. He ended up having more than 4 seasons. What he ended up doing went beyond expectations. Back in that time we really weren't talking about ''he needs to win X-amount of World Cups'' or ''he needs to win X-amount of Champions Leagues.'' Nobody was obsessed with that at the time. All people cared about what how well he played the game.

This sort of video has been a long time coming. I remember arguing with Ronaldo fans and they went like "yeah, but he is not a complete forward, he can't score headers". Like he wasn't allowed to be world class because of his height. Messi is one of the best players that ever graced the beautiful game and I consider myself so lucky to be able to watch him play and beat the snot out of that United side.

Senior year in high school in Wildwood NJ watching that 2011 final with all my friends. Great times. Watched him score a hat trick against Brazil at MetLife the next year. Such a gift.
