I had my strat in storage for many years. It has a rosewood fretboard and was dried out considerably. The fret ends were protuding a tad. First thing I had to do is clean it really well and then apply an ample amount of lemon oil. Let it sit and soak in for 30 min or so and rechecked. Had to repeat 3 more times until the wood was properly conditioned. I've seen many types of oil mention on the web. I tried mineral oil/baby oil and synthetic gun lube. But lemon oil is thinner and soaks in better. I also used a GHS fast fret stick which worked good for scrubbing grime off the frets. Thanks to Fender univ. and others on YouTube for helping me restore and setup my pride and joy back to spec.

Just play your guitar more. My guitar never dries out 'coz I moisturise it with my sweat blood and tears...

Those gray foam rubber 'brushes' found in hardware stores work great for applying whatever oil product you choose. Common sense says to avoid olive oil, mineral oil, castor oil. I've used the lemon oil method but it did work well for me. I now use Liquid Gold furniture polish/oil with a foam brush to get right up to the frets.

Frets: I use a cordless Dremel-like tool and Semi-Chrome polish on the frets for a mirror like shine. Just a dab on the fret and have a go at it with a clean micro fiber towel or the Dremel tool. You will be amazed.

Guess it’s time to give my dry fretboard a kiss of oil.

Can you condition it under the strings if you don't want to remove them? I"m a newbie buying a new guitar and only complaints I've heard about this guitar is the dry fretboard.

sweet Jaguar! I am thinking of taking off the factory strings after some years (lol yeah maybe that's too long) and put on new strings. and I'll probably get some oil as well to condition my fretboard too
