Weds. is usually better prices for me from what Ive noticed. My flights on a normal day cost around $560. If i purchase tickets on a Weds. I usually only pay $325 to $380 per ticket. I believe it just all depends on where you are traveling.

or you could watch Wendover Productions videos and find out how ticket prices are made, why same tickets at different times have different prices, also which airports are way cheaper to fly, and that Tue/Wed/Thu are actually the cheapest days to fly rather than to buy a ticket.
luckily Tomorrow is Tuesday and I was looking at the tickets to Tokyo/Osaka/Fukuoka earlier today. Nice way to check if price drops tomorrow.

Tuesday afternoon is optimal; but which Tuesday? Is there a best length of time prior to departure to buy, such as 6 weeks prior, or 3 months prior to your desired departure date?

My simple logic says, People usually resume offices on Monday so there can be chance that people might fly directly to office after weekend, so Mondays are not Cheap.
Sat and Sunday are weekends, so airlines will keep tickets high priced coz there is high chance of ticket booking during those 2 days.
Now Friday is exactly opposite to Monday, people flying to some destination, planning weekends and all.
So we are left with Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Things are almost settled on these three days, people hardly move their asses to move out or move in. So, hence ticket prices fall on these three days.

I am also a data scientist but with 3 years of experience. ;)
