The Thailand Used Motorcycle Market as an Expat

Join me on today's laid-back adventure as I take you back to the Ruamchok Motorcycle Market in the heart of Chiang Mai, Thailand. This place is a treasure trove for motorbike enthusiasts like me, and I'm seriously considering an upgrade for my trusty Honda Click.

The Thai used motorbike market can offer some fantastic deals, but remember, it's essential to exercise caution and ideally have a buddy who's fluent in Thai. Safety first, always!

One of the coolest things about the motorcycle markets in Chiang Mai is that you can always put your haggling skills to good use. The initial asking price is just the starting point, my friends!
Plus, Ruamchok Market is known for helping out with the change of ownership at the Thailand Transport Office, making the whole process smoother and hassle-free.

Did I come across a bike that stole my heart? You'll have to watch the video to find out!

Wayne, based on your love of motorcycles I want to recommend my all time favorite book - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Persig. Love the channel, mate. Keep on rocking, rolling, riding and waffling.

I didn't realize you could get automatics. That's a plus for me to convince the Mrs. Enjoy your ice cream, Wayne!

Nice one Wayne.

I remember your last visit here.

I'm with you Wayne. In a world where people are obsessed with new and fresh I agree some of the most satisfying rides your arsh can have is something with a few miles and passed through other hands. Wait what was this video about again? 😉

PS the LB bike killed me. Would that be a "kathoeysaki"?

I got a 125 Wave with 100k on it I would have preferred a Dream, more steel in the older ones. Was the strangest bargain Ive ever done, I pointed out the issues to lower the price but there was no movement in price was nice bike so I said yes, They told me come back in an hour to collect, we went had lunch came back and they, d replaced the battery, installed a chain guard, and new back brake shoes: the items I'd asked for discount on, and two new helmets, the little mountain goat is still going strong.

Unfortunately, the Aerox is the worst one ergonomically. The 2 pointy bit hits your legs/knee all the time if you're above 1m75. It's SO annoying. Aannnd you overlooked the best scooter: ADV160 (you see it at 7:57 on the left). The Exciter would be my choice though, it's a beast.

Wow. So many bikes. It would take me weeks to make a decision. Sometimes less is more.

I just got back from Chiang Mai. Rented a Click 160. That's the bike for around town as far as I'm concerned. I also rented a big bike, a Honda CBX500. Big fun in the mountains, but sucks in town. I'm going to need one of each, lol!

Wayne if your going to buy used, take a good look at maintenance records and make sure there is no hanky panky like odometer being rolled back ( for instance if you see that it had an oil change at 15, 000 kms and the bike only has 12, 000 kms you know something’s up ), and if your going to buy through FB market place be aware that if your buying from another expat he has to be living in the same province as you.( Thai law )
