White Stripes are a mix of blues and garage rock. There was a big revival of garage rock and post-punk when they broke into the mainstream. Its easy to tell their influences since theyve done a lot of covers. Captain Beefheart was an influence of theirs. They released a whole ep of covers of him. Many also compare them to blues punk band The Gun Club.

You guys should watch the documentary film "It Might Get Loud" ... basically it covers Jack White, The Edge from U2 and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and includes a group discussion where the three of them sit around and talk music.

Jack is a guitar god. He has his own effect pedal that has a plasma tube in it, it's amazing and super expensive and I'll never have one haha.

This is straight forward, no frills 12 bar blues. Jack and Meg are the secret sauce.
People like to give Meg crap about her simplistic style (and it is), but it serves the song and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Jack White is a true artist. He's all over the place creativity. His Third Man Studios in Nashville is a place to visit. You should see his collaboration with the queen of country music Loretta Lynn.
