Joe Biden announces that he is stepping down as the Democratic candidate. He has done a lot for the US economy but is "utterly without charisma", says Investigative journalist David Cay Johnston.

I'm very sad and very sad for Joe Biden. he was and still is, a great President, compassionate, giving and he cares, he was ill, coming down with Covid when his own party went against him, so very unfair. I'm British but I will miss him, he was an excellent President.

California's not up for grabs but Michigan is, so it should be Harris/Whitmer. Since there have been all male presidential tickets before this would seem to be in order. There is an emerging consensus that women are competent human beings who can do stuff.
Importantly, Harris won't betray Ukraine, as Putin's asset would on day one. This would give Europe more time to establish a fully independent security capacity should it need one soon.

Yes it was a disastrous debate, but President Biden was not well that evening and later on said it hard to debate a liar, if only to media focused on the lies of Trump.
President Biden will go down as one of the greatest presidents of America if not the greatest.
President Biden is a gentleman to the core, but you cannot face an AR15 with a water pistol.
I so looking forward to the debate between Harris and Trump, actually I think trump will chicken out here, as being a racist and a misogynistic.

I agree strongly that the debate was largely the beginning of the end, and also the middle of the end. It was the biggest single factor in all of this by far.

Also agreed that he had a great speech the very next day. The next day was scripted, yes, and I don’t mean to imply a nap was the difference between these two major arcs of history- but I think if that specific performance hadn’t happened, the pressure would not have boiled high enough that this would have happened.
