How Single Dogs Can Herd Giant Groups of Sheep

Would it surprise you to know that a sheep dog is better at math than you are? Herding requires the type of thinking that's often used in engineering. Sheepdogs are uniquely great herders because they naturally think algorithmically. Sheepdogs know that sheep behave according to the selfish herd principle, which means when there's a perceived threat, an individual seeks cover by pushing deep into the herd. This acts as a centripetal force pulling the rest of the herd inward on itself.

I'm from a farming country and know how hard these dogs work. They also cost big money £15-20k uk for the best dogs 🐕

I'm watching videos like this bc I work with dogs, there's a border collie there that has never been on a farm, but herding is built into him. He instinctively tries to round up the other dogs while they are running around/horse playing. My boss was explaining some of this to me, and these videos help me better understand him. Some think he's just being mean/a bully, which I have thought on occasion, but, after explained to me, me and one of my bosses think he's just a bit misunderstood, he needs a job. It's fascinating that although he's never been on a farm, that those instincts are just in him. May not be in all bc's, but it's definitely in this one at work. Hoping if I learn more about it then it will help me better understand him and how to deal with it at work. But, like it even says in this video, it is just in some dogs, and they'll even try to round up kids, or what ever is around them.
Between dogs that round up herds of other animals, dogs that pull sleds, dogs that help blind ppl, dogs that can even sense when their owner is about to have a seizure, dogs that can track the scent of a missing person, sniff out a bomb, drugs, a dead body, therapy dogs, ... and, even just being a "regular ole pet", a family dog, The long list of what dogs can be trained to do. They certainly are amazing!

it's such a shame that dogs are now just pets instead of working and roaming around like they want to be

Why do the sheep run from the dog? the dog never attacks them, and there are so many sheep and only one dog. are they scared of the dog or do they just know to listen?

Isn't it a stretch to assert that dogs are performing mathematics?

They literally want to treat you like sheep.
