'How did the West miss this invasion?' - Ruth Davidson's Scotch Corner

It's that time of the week where I catch up with two of my favourite journalists, who just so happen to be Scottish, to get their views on the stories of the day.

Lindsay McIntosh is the Head of News at the Sunday Times, and Kevin Schofield is the Political Editor of HuffPost UK.

The UN met late on Wednesday evening to try and stop Putin from invading Ukraine, but he invaded while the speeches were being given.

Russia currently holds the rotating chair of the UN Security Council.

Are the institutions which are supposed to stop these things from happen working?

Since 2014 we have done lots to support Ukraine. We have extended them lines of credit. We have then sold them defence systems, military planes, vehicles and high quality training. We have told them it would all be ok and extracted as much wealth as possible from a relatively poor country because “geopolitics”.

When it hit the fan this week, we told them our prayers are with them without any hint of irony. We may even increase their debt position once this settles down to rebuild (US, UK, EU consultants and contractors of course). And we will continue to buy Russian oil & gas and domicile the highest number of Russian billions living outside of Moscow. Putin may be a monster, but Ukrainian blood isn’t only on his hands?

As a Scot, I find the title of this programme “Ruth’s Scotch Corner” a little insulting.
