Lt. Col. John Hall, Ph.D. If that combination of titles surprises you, it shouldn’t — not the way Hall, a UW–Madison professor of military history, sees it. As a cadet at West Point, he preferred courses like advanced hand-to-hand combat to the liberal arts classes he felt were being imposed on him. Now, he realizes they were the most valuable part of his education.
