Bernie Sanders Lays Out a Progressive Vision for Foreign Policy

Показать описание
Bernie Sanders has laid out a progressive vision for healthcare, education and the economy; but now, he's explaining what America should do to embrace a progressive foreign policy vision. However, Bernie Sanders' foreign policy positions—while being one of the best in the Senate—still leaves much to be desired. This begs the question: is his progressive foreign policy vision bold enough? Does he unequivocally condemn U.S. imperialism, Israeli war crimes, and the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan? Well... not as much as he should. We'll talk about the pros and cons when it comes to Sanders on foreign policy and have a nuanced discussion about what he can and should do to improve.

Thank you for calling out Mr. Sanders on his foreign policy. You also don't have to apoligize for doing so. I like Bernie a lot. I would've voted for him but went with Jill and the Green party. We need to call these people out. It's the only way they will correct themselves.

It seems like Bernie is at least listening to what Americans are saying regarding foreign policy and the disgusting level of foreign intervention America executes. If he is willing to listen and adapt, that is a good start. But the bar for our expectations regarding politicians and their foreign policy stances is really, really fucking low. I do not think America should supply aid to Israel and I would like Bernie to be more vocal and critical about the apartheid enacted by Israel.

honestly i believe bernie is just keeping his true feelings hidden on some of these issues, and is waiting for the right time to speak on them... the country is changing and while it's terrible to watch all the tragic goings on in the world, if he jumps the gun and goes against israel harder he will be silenced far more than he has been yet, and that's a hell of a lot. if he keeps gaining power, i expect to see him slowly try to sew more progressive seeds in the minds of the masses under the eyes of our giant corporation country

It isn't compromise and we have to start somewhere.

Thank you for discussing the content of Bernie's speech. I started listening to it, but turned it off in anger when he started in on parroting the Democrats' talking points on Russia.

Exporting "democracy" is the only policy. And by democracy I mean capitalism. The rich get richer.

This is why I like independent outlets like you, secular talk, and young turks. You're always giving constructive criticism, even for politicians you like. I love Bernie, but I do think he has a lot to learn about foreign policy. I am hopeful though that he's more than willing to take advice from non-interventionists like Rand Paul.

It is imperative that each and every one of us, without exception, become well-informed, free of misinformation and disinformation, about what is actually taking place in the world today.

Mike, I appreciate calling out Bernie on this, but he is not the second best. Barbara Lee has stood against foreign policy intervention for as long as she remained in washington and even voted against the AUMF, something that both Bernie Sanders AND Ron Paul voted for.

I adore you for expresssing this SO PERFECTLY. I agree 100% Tulsi and Rand Paul are the only two national politicians that are close to being right in their stances. Glad to see Bernie moving the right way.

Good of you to call Bernie out. I like the guy but we should always be criticizing our own before we criticize others. That shows maturity in your ideology.

Bernie is right about the Marshall Plan.

You see, Bernie can grandstand on both domestic AND foreign policy at the same time! Too much to believe that he'll give up voting for endless military appropriations though.

Bernie's argument that we should condemn that UN resolution because it talks only about Israel and not about other middle eastern countries seems to me a little like saying "All Lives Matter" -- Um, the point of that resolution was to address an issue that gets ignored -- It's not claiming that Israel is the only country with human rights "issues" (to use Bernie's wording).

Thank you! After watching that speech I was really disappointed. His FP is in no way progressive, and we have to hold him to account to do better.

Yes, I agree. I note his comments about ISIS a while ago, didn't know about the comment about Iraq, no problem, he'll get there.

You can walk the walk or you can walk the plank. I think Bernie is wise to avoid the plank.
