Bamboo challenges in Africa

Native and cultivated bamboo flourishes all over sub-Saharan Africa. It has enormous potential to address environmental problems of all kinds, as well as social and economic issues that plague the continent. Yet bamboo remains far under-utilized in Africa. Bambu Batu works with growers and producers from Ghana to Nigeria to Malawi to Kenya to help lift bamboo's reputation and see it put to better use.

I'd like to farm bamboo in California high desert to terraform my 10 acre lot for industrial bamboo harvesting..what species would be best suited....Ethiopian variety seems like a possibility because of drought tolerance...any suggestions would be appreciated
