Weekend Trip To Athens 2019 | Dark Reality of Greece

When I was a little girl I dreamed of visiting Athens because I just loved reading books about the Greek Gods! Last week (October 2019) I visited the capital of Greece and one of the oldest cities in the world…

But I was just in shock about the reality of Athens: drug addicts, garbage and graffiti, and all this because of the protracted crisis :(
People don't usually show this dark side of Greece but in my new video I showed the whole truth about Athens!

Nevertheless I still advise you to visit this city in Europe because despite all the drawbacks it is stunningly beautiful!
For example, in my opinion, Acropolis is the place that you need to see at least once in your life!

I'm sure Athens is perfect for a weekend trip :)

The hotel you stayed is located in the worst area of central Athens. Lesson learnt for next time to do more research before booking a hotel.

Your choice of area for staying to a hotel wouldn't have been worse. Concerning dirt, smell and drugs, this is a common place for every big city. Before you go anywhere, ask, search, be informed. I have always lived in Athens and I wouldn't dare even walk for 5 minutes at the places you did.

SINCE the beggining, i google ed the location of ur hotel and i found out that it is loacted in a bad naiberhood, , u should v check that eariler, , i m going to athens in 12 days time, , and i m staying there for a week ., so i know so info about where is safe and where is not.. lovely video, thanks for sharing - for the360 rooftop bar do u recommend reserving a table be4 in advance?

The museum has impressive artifacts but perhaps you have not cultured yourself in this art era, perhaps in the future after you accustom yourself with the art of the era you will have a deeper perspective with the artifacts.
Also you can check the national archaeological museum as well next time. It makes more logical to visit that first and this museum second

You can't judge a city by its "bad" area, every city, including New York, Paris, London has bad areas where there are drugs, litter and crime. Its simple economics and a natural social consequence every big city has.

Yes, you clarity has improved a lot from this video. Your sentence structure is much better today compared to then. Perhaps someday I will make it to Athens but I have much to see in North America. I don't travel much as I spend a lot of my time at work. Have an interest in the New Bedford and Adena a cultures in N America. The Indians and most historians agree that they are of Native American ancestry. No one really knows where they came from or who they were. They built the Serpent Mound and the Great Circle in Ohio. Accross the Mississippi River from St Louis they built clay pyramids and a city of at least 10, 000 people around 1000 to 2000 BC. These are fairly recent archeological discoveries so if you haven't heard of them don't feel bad. Most within my life time. Some feel that they were of Europen ancestry. Some of their remains have also been found with Mastadons ( an extinct creature similar to a Wooly Mamouth ) in what was the Great Black Swamp of N. W. Ohio and N.E. Indiana. ( They drained the swamp in the mid-1800's for farmland, some areas have 2 foot of top soil in that area, very fertile land)

When I first traveled to Greece in 1975 I was surprised at what people threw out the window. From an early age here in the U.S. we are taught not to litter, but in Athens, and in Greece, there was always someone sweeping it up by the next day. I remember yraveling in a bus to my grandfather's village and seeing mattresses, and everything else you could think of on the side of the road.

Thats so sad that u picked one of the worst place to stay. Even the greeks dont go easy there. Athens has many clean and beautiful areas. Look where locals go for food. In athens is safe to eat even the street food. So do not be afraid go to places where the most locals are. Tourist areas are expensive especially Infront of the museum of acropolis. Hope next time if u visit our beautiful country you will enjoy more✌️

We have places like that in the states open drug use and trash I try to avoid it my best some time I need to for work but ya and there is way more good than bad just sometimes the bad part stands out more a while back I was in a jack in the box drive through and this homeless dude is right by the window to pay and get your food just staring at me getting my food so rude it's crazy anyway thanks for sharing your experience

That was one of the worst places you could stay in the city. There are lots of cool and pretty districts you could stay in that wouldn't be too expensive, or of course you could stay in very posh areas. Because the city is so big and busy, a visit here needs good planning. Other than the sketchy areas, Athens is quite safe and beautiful.

This situation (garbage strikes and many other strikes) is caused by capitalism and EU. If we smash capitalism an leave the eurozone Greece will be in a much better place!

Just got back from Athens and it was so nice. We hardly tried to find “druggers” and didn’t smell drugs. Only Urin )) some junkies here and there (this is how drug addicts called) The streetart is amazing! And compare to Greek islands the people are more polite and friendly. If you leave the tourist area just a bit the food is stunning and more reasonable priced. Anyhow really enjoyed your video, where are you going next?
