Meet Kimberly Teehee, the woman who could be the Cherokee Nation’s first delegate in the House of Representatives.

In US news and current events today, the Cherokee Nation indigenous tribe is attempting to exercise its right to send a delegate to the House of Representatives under the New Echota Treaty, one of two treaties from 1785 and 1835, that allows the Native American group to do so. While Deb Haaland is one of the first Native American congresspeople, Kimberly Teehee, Cherokee nation’s vice president of governmental relations and former senior policy adviser on Native American affairs to President Obama, would become the first Congressperson to represent the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee Tribal Council would pick this representative.

How different would it be now if the native people of North America had been included in the democratic process this whole time?

Good on the Native Americans, they deserve more voices in politics.

AND SHE HAS STILL YET TO BE SEATED. We should all call email and harass congress to keep this promise. Seat this woman. Nearly 200 years on and still no promise. Can we just take the land back?
