Neo's New Abilities in the Ever After (It's NOT a Semblance Evolution) | RWBY Volume 9 Discussion

Neo is finally here to shake things up in the Ever After and with some new abilities to boot. These powers aren't an evolution of her semblan though, instead it's something unique to the Ever After...

This kind of reinforces your theory that what Neo really needs is essentially to let go. I have a feeling that will involve realizing just how much she was used.

Keep in mind that she probably also can change their appearance to disguise her clones

When I first saw the scene I wondered if because her semblance is focused around illusions and they're in a world of make believe, then maybe when she uses her semblance in that world it makes them real. If she's able to conjure up fake people in a fantasy world then maybe the world itself interprets it as a real person

I believe each clone shall become one of the shadows we saw behind Neo in the intro OP.

I agree with you; I think if this was a proper semblance evolution they would’ve spent more time focusing on the impact of that moment and given it a bit more depth instead of making it a cliffhanger scene to end the episode. I do think that the Ever After probably can effect people’s semblances and so Neo’s semblance upgrade would be caused by the world. I think it’s a really exciting development. I’ve seen people suggesting Neo will do a bit of a Wandavision and make a clone of Roman in this world (I think that makes a lot of sense cuz Neo’s still grieving and I can see her wanting to live in this fantasy). But we’ll have to see! Whatever happens, it’ll certainly be interesting :D

I really wish they had evolved Blake’s semblance in volume 8 as that was a perfect outcry of the soul. I also hope they acknowledge the people from Atlas who fell cause they obviously survived as well. Or at least give us penny’s body?

I think every one of her clones will take the form of someone important or significant for RWBY and Jaune to give her an edge against them. There were nine clones and nines shadows behind Neo in the opening. So, I would say: Raven for Yang, Penny for Ruby, Adam for Blake, Winter for Weiss, Pyrrha for Jaune. Roman surely will be present. That's.six out of nine. Maybe she would add Ren and Nora against Jaune or Cinder herself.

Even if the world wasn't affecting her and her semblance, Neo is already able to create clones and control them freely. She did it quite frequently in Roman Holiday.

It could be that the Ever After reacts with Neo's semblance by allowing her to manifest duplicates, without draining her aura. Who knows.
I think in Ren's case, when Harriet mentioned that team members are replaceable, that obviously upset Ren because he thought of Pyrrha in response. That's when I think his semblance evolved. It also gave him a sense of tranquility as well.

I think Neo and the rest of team RWBY will become as powerful as Cinder and the other maidens before the volume is over. Their character growth will give them access to these powers.

I feel like the reason the world responded to neo’s semblance was bc she was on the dark side of the world which more than likely represents the god of darkness and as we know magic was a gift to humans from the god of darkness and semblances are like what branch off of magic from the early humans

I agree, Neo's new ability in the Everafter will lead to her semblance evolving a little bit or enhance her semblance greatly. I also think this will make the battle between Neo and Ruby more difficult.

I think the ever after affect on Jaune will make his semblance to take away power from all life.
