It's a good thing I had my tinfoil hat on when 5G discussions commenced.

We're a family of 6 and I consider us to be reasonably heavy internet users, most of us are gamers. We average 1.2TB per month

Reminds me of all the roads around my area, instead of fixing the roads they whack up speed signs lowering the speed so instead of hitting a huge pothole, that's now almost at the stage where it's a sinkhole, at 100 you can hit it at 80, problem solved! Australian governments and their agencies/companies are some of the most incompetent in the world. Yeah it's also a little bit on the electorate as well, when they see governments spending a ton of money they're up in arms, but that's why it takes a backbone to push on and do it right the first time! As for Apps wanting access to your data, even the ones that even do ask permission are ridiculous, if you need the App for whatever reason you're essentially forced to give them access to everything nowadays, 'I just wanna check the weather, oh you want access to my contacts... OK, oh you need my bank account details... yeah sure that'll be useful... oh my PIN as well.... credit card information, must effect the atmosphere, interesting.... oh it's 20 degrees today, wonderful'.

I’ve used Optus 5G home in the South Cronulla area and with good line of sight of the main antenna. Speeds are a fairly consistent 500/70 with a 20ms ping. The experience is in my opinion similar to a fixed line NBN though remember this is not a connection you should consider running an server on.

As someone who has had both (5G Home internet vs Gigabit NBN) It is not even a comparison. NBN is better times a thousand

Look to the providers who don't have *unlimited* nbn plans for guidance on what is reasonable. The going rate indicates 3TB is about right. You'd have to be watching TV for 8-10 hours a day to come anywhere close to that

Fixed line user might be medical and maybe need to send high quality images. Mri images take up rather large files.

I don’t like 4G or 5G, as when 4G come out they promised about 500Mbps to 1Gbps but I only get 1-10 mbps on 4 g

I finally made the switch to Linux (Pop OS Ubuntu), good riddance MS and Windows 11, I never loved you.

Such a shame the Optus thing is by invitation only. I'd be giving it serious consideration if invited. Mind you, I was never invited to join NBN's FTTP club either (as was Turnbull)!

Would love to get 5G but my area is stuck with the NBN.. I don’t know if it’s cause there’s no towers or the Telcos preference to sell NBN connections.. we pay too much for the slow speeds we get.. 100mbs is $90-110
