Wish I had a zip tie with me tonight. To zip tie the derailleur to the frame for the walk back to the car.
I suggest a first aid kit, and a derailleur hanger as essential items to.

I'm generally 20 mins from the car so I only take a pump and lezyne tyre plug kit, I like that one because it all fits inside its own housing with no pokey bits sticking out, in addition to that a granola bar and electrolyte drink for energy and hydration.

Very cool and fun video Rich! I’ve got a hack I saw from Jack Moir yesterday in his EWS bike check. He keeps a spare derailleur hanger zip tied in the back of the saddle on the rails. As it has 2 holes, one for the mech bolt and the other for the axle, a zip tie goes through each and around the adjacent rail. Definitely an ultra useful and worry free hack for those more serious breakages.

First aid kit, and a whistle, especially if you ride alone. And a wind up torch if you are out night riding

Another hack that I used with a friend of mine on a road bike ride was to fix a rip on a tire with a euro bank note to stop the inner tube from bulging. He made it to the end of the ride and gave me my euros back.

Old master links
Spare spokes in the handlebars
Leatherman
First aid kit, no band aids, just gauze, TQ, quick clot, etc. For injuries that can't wait till you get to the car

Agreed with everything. But since since I run tubes, I carry a patch kit instead.... and I forgo the spare tube since I have patches. Honestly, I'm not sure the last time I suffered a flat tire (knocks on wood quickly) out on the trails (no, I don't suffer from pinch flats - I know what pressures to run that keeps the tires and tubes happy for my setup, though it took some time to figure those out).

Chain links, derailleur hanger, brake pads. Even I’m carrying a small bottle of tubeless sealant, but I think it’s not necesary if you checked that at home.

Please make a video about storing mtb pleaseee!!! (How and where)
The only place for my bike is outside with a waterproof cover on it, luckily I live in a warm area.

Gear cable. I once went out for along xc ride and my rear mech cable snapped so that it would only sit over the smallest sprocket / hardest gear. This happened to be a very hot day (when I probably shouldn’t have even ventured out) on the North York Moors where there is very little shelter from the sun. I wasn’t able to pedal the (now singlespeed) bike up a lot of the hills in that gear, and the ones I could get up took considerable effort so I had to push a lot of the way back to the car (parked at the top of a large hill). I was very dehydrated when I got back and to top it off I later discovered that the little free sample sportsdrink tablet i had casually chucked into my water at the start of the ride was actually a caffeine supplement! so was probably dehydrating me even further. So I pack a gear cable on long rides now

For me it’s the zip ties and a tube with a pump. Because if you cant fix it without zip ties. It’s stuffed. And the tube to repair the flats

I would add a sling they are tiny and if you have ever joined clavicle club you know a sling is the best pain killer it is instant and a powerful pain killer

You can use a 29 inch inner tube for a 27.5 wheel if you fold the inner tube inside its self to make it shorter, it's not ideal but it's better than nothing

As a type one diabetic it’s crucial for me to take food if I don’t and my blood sugar goes down I will crash cause I have no awareness once I thought it would be fine to keep riding and I crashed when I could have got away with it

Right size tube... They are made of rubber, they stretch. A 27.5 will fit a 29er, dare I say it, a 26 will also fit at a push....
