As a WOC, thank you for this video. It can be a little intimidating because there’s not a lot of POC in corporate. I agree with you that socializing/communicating is very important. I have to speak up 10x times more because people have a preconceived notion that I’m already quiet (kind of annoying). We had a team retreat and our boss offered to take us to lunch after. Part of me wanted to go home but I ended up going to lunch so I could show more of my “social” side. I will definitely watch more of your videos- this was helpful. Thank you!

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you stated. Definitely not for the faint at heart! It also helps to be expendable in a sense. I’m on my second promotion in 7yrs as an employee with United Healthcare. I was promoted November 2019, trained for 3 months, worked in my position 3 months—now they are training me another 2 weeks to work in a position unrelated to what I was hired to do. I have to learn 5 new systems and I have 10 days to do it. They’re only using me for a couple of weeks and then it’s back to my original position lol! #WelcomeToCorporate

Now the corporate world has changed so much it`s great that you`re able to provide some insight into the new corporate world dynamic from the inside.

Facts about having to know your job without having the experience. I was never trained at my job and was told I'm not fulfilling my job duties but this is simply not true. I have gone to HR multiple times until something was finally done about it. I still have to continue to prove myself even tho all my coworkers have vouched for me, telling them I know what the fuck I am doing. The culture at my job is toxic. Kiss my ass or be black listed. It's not about skill or knowing how to do your job it's about the bestfriends club. AWFUL!

100% accurate ! Thank you! My first job in IT, i started at a corporate company in Boston recently. Craaazy! So fast paced, had no idea of what is going in and what i am supposed to do. They expected me to perform right from start! I was so stressed for months to the point where i started thinking i made a bad decision. Off-course, things are much better now after 8 months. At least i know what to do, who to ask etc.

This is a good video. My advice to young people is to find a job in an area that you really enjoy. If you have a true interest in what the company does, then you will do well.

My opinion coming from construction /military you have a clear objective everybody knows there job clearly and we are all on the same page. I just got hired for a corporate job it was more here’s some office supplies and a desk and 1 hour training basically glossing over topics. In my company co workers are little to no help a lot of gossip and useless chit chat and emails lol. But perks are awesome I love the video tho you are spot on keep up the good work 😀

Management will restructure about every 18 months, department direction and focus will change about every 12 months... if you don't like the role or the management give it a year, it'll change. If a methodology doesn't work it'll go away, but you'll try it again after 2 management changes. If a methodology is working, it'll go away and you may never get to try it again... I'm my 30 years of corporate life most things seem to have gotten much less efficient, except for change efficiency... lol

As a Black man with 10.5 years in Corporate America, only pursue a corporate career in something you’re truly passionate about and are willing to dedicate your entire life to. Otherwise, you’ll be conflicted with your personal identity throughout your time in Corporate America.
