Tull Folk Rock Trilogy Tribute: Weathercock / Fire At Midnight (live 1982)

Part of my affectionate tribute to Tull's legendary Folk Rock Trilogy, which started with "Songs From The Wood" (1977), continued with "Heavy Horses" (1978), and ended with "Stormwatch" (1979)...

Here's the final part of my tribute to Tull's Folk Rock trilogy, featuring the two songs which famously ended the "Songs From The Wood" & "Heavy Horses" albums (back in the olden days of vinyl records, long before alternate formats and bonus tracks came into the mix).

Sad to say, the band didn't perform these songs when I saw them in 1982 at Southern California's Inglewood Forum. I only wish that they had, since they stand as two of my all-time favorite Tull songs, regardless of their vast catalog and varied musical phases. However, on the up-side of things, at least I finally got to hear them, by way of this audio snippet from a concert in Hamburg, Germany.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to watch & listen to these little tribute projects. It's very much appreciated, I assure you. After the first of the year, more than likely, I'll once again be producing some of my more macabre video showcases, the sort of thing which tends to constitute the majority of those offerings on this channel.

At least I'll seek to do so for a little while, until such time as the whole unpleasant Net Neutrality cancellation perhaps winds up forcing this into becoming a ghost channel. We'll see how things look by the time the month of May eventually comes around... Best wishes -- Steve (Gothling1955)

I studied music for 60 years, and I played multiple instruments, and I compose some, too. In my careful opinion, Jethro Tull is one of the top bands of all time and Ian Anderson is one of the best songwriters.

After this album I think his music went down hill… I saw them in St Louis and Chicago on this tour…
But overall there’s not a better entertainer, music, composer and songwriter than Sir Ian Anderson… Simply the best….

No one ever sang more dramatically overwhelming than Ian Anderson. "Sing to us softly, hum evening´s sooong...."

Such a shame Ian didn´t play Weathercock in the Bursting Out album.

Over the years I've been baffled why fans have lumped "Stormwatch" in with the previous 2 albums as some sort of "folk rock and to a lesser degree "HH" certainly fit the "folk rock" aesthetic, but with only "Dun Ringill" fitting the description, "SW" was a return to full blown Tull at that point in time. Trying to shoe-horn it in with the previous 2 albums to create some imagined "trilogy", even to Ian himself, was and remains a real head scratcher

Weathercock is the name of a horse and not a weather vane.
