For me this might be her saddest song ever. You can hear the devastation, frustration, helplessness, anger and begging for him to see her, to love and choose her the way she does/did him. But still you can hear the love and glimmer of hope between the lines, no lashing out. Makes it so much more heartbreaking.

The first several times I heard this song, I couldn't help but cry. The heartache of giving your all even though "all" is so small and still not being seen or enough to carry on. Depression hits so hard, y'all. It's like you want to open up to others, and you know you need help, but there is no energy to do so because all your energy is thrown into putting on a facade. And the people you do open up to don't know how to help you either. You're screaming for help, but still nothing. So what happens next? When I hear this song, I hear me, and that's what Taylor always does best.
