Break Out of BORING POSES

This video is all about pushing the limits of your figures for more excitement and energy. Sometimes the difference between dynamic and boring comes down to a few small changes, and being willing to push things just a bit further. I've covered a variation of this subject before, but it's so important, and so much fun for me to do, I wanted to dive in and take on some more. Every figure presents its own unique challenge, but the more strategies you have in your toolkit, the further you can take them.

Thanks so much for watching! If you enjoyed, please hit like and subscribe, and share with your friends.

You could make "breaking out of boring poses" a regular series, that's how awesome this video is

Man, David Finch is goated. I've filled out like ten pages of my sketchbooks just watching your videos today and having a field day with poses.

Its interesting how a simple pose can change a characters demeanor. In the 4th example the first attempt appears hesitant but courageous, but in the second he's assertive and bold

It's so great to see the thought process behind the poses. This thought process will definitely help me

This is super helpful, thank you Mr. Finch! I’ve found some of my poses growing a bit stale and this was just the kick I needed to step them up! 😁

I scrolled too quickly and thought it said "Break out *the* boring poses" and was like "finally something that fits my style!" 🥲

I like the way you break down your processes. I practice new poses by breaking down a long scribble cursive-like line into several individual poses.

Great video Dave! This has been super helpful in tandem with my Loomis head studies and gesture sketches. If I could suggest, as someone who always struggles with hands, a video on dynamic hand poses would be great to go along with this. You have your hands down to a shorthand at this point, and they all look so great and on point.

This video is an absolute blast! Love that it’s focussed on getting from a 70 to 100% more dynamism in a figure! That extra mile isn’t something that’s talked enough about on YouTube tutorials. Incidentally, it’s the first time I’ve noticed just how much you press into the paper! Just an extra little quirks and fascinating details that would be awesome to see if they ever have the wisdom to do one of those huge artist’s edition of your work. Hope they do! Cheers

The best part of this video for me is the permission to try, fix, erase, and refine without feeling like there is a singular right or wrong. Thanks for the great video.
