Barney puts together a list of potential matches for Andy.

TV Land:

Small town Sheriff Andy Taylor is raising his son Opie (Ron Howard) with the help of Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) in Mayberry, North Carolina. With virtually no crimes to solve, most of Andy's time is spent calming down his bumbling but well-meaning Deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts).

Poor Andy, Barney must have taken some years off his life. Seriously, I love Andy choosing Helen and ignoring Barney's antiquated comments about wives having to be gourmet cooks and being expected to give up their jobs when they marry. In my opinion, this puts Andy head and shoulders above many of his sitcom contemporaries like Rob Petrie and Danny Williams, both of whom went ballistic at the idea that their wives might take part-time jobs. Good for Sheriff Taylor! Thank you for posting this, fun episode.

I saw this episode last night for the 1st time. When Barney finds out Helen isn't a good cook and won't be quitting her job after she marries, I was in tears laughing so hard at Barney's reactions.

The last name Beasley is used several times in the series, including here, Loraine Beasley. Others are Goober Beasley, Juanita Beasley, Andrew Beasley, Charlie Beasley, and Edgar Beasley .

The one time Barney was right, Helen was the future Mrs. Andy Taylor.

Well, you dont find a wife that way. That's what you do when you try to organize a girls softball 🥎 team. 😆

With Helen's temper, Andy would've wound up in a wood chipper.

Amanda was cute. I think she would have been better for Andy than Helen Crump. And I'll bet she could cook a mean leg of lamb.

Andy never did marry Helen GRUMP on the show; but he did carry on a torrid affair with her in real life IN SPITE OF this affair threading its way through TWO MARRIAGES of his; shameful! Don Knotts also had an affair on the set which resulted in his wife divorcing him also; so much for proper small town values eh...but i just CANT imagine DK having an affair with anyone; after all, hes NO romeo eh....

If barney didnt get into andy's bidness the show would not be so funny. Cuz Andy is not funny by himself. I didnt like it much when don knotts left the show.
Wasnt as funny anymore.

I hated that Helen Crump!! God, she was an insecure mess. Any pretty gal who just spoke to Andy made her go ballistic. With that temper, how could she be a teacher? She had so little trust in Andy, he never cheated on her, in the storyline. I never liked that Ellie, either, who Andy dated that first season, the pharmacist. Her voice and prissy behavior annoyed me. I liked Thelma Lou, and she was much better looking and nicer than Helen...so Barney had the best deal. I watched this show when new, and I was a child. Also watched 'Mayberry RFD' when new. It wasn't very funny, though.
