Recorded live at Chimurenga HQ, Cape Town, in February 2017, this seventh installment of 'Stories About Music in Africa' presents iPhupho L'ka Biko, featuring composer and bassist Nhlanhla Ngqaqu, Miseka Gaqa (vocals), Athamacwera Ngcaba (trombone), Ludwe Danxa (keyboard) and Lumanyano Mzi (drums).
Founded in 2015 by Nhlanhla Ngqaqu, iPhupho L'ka Biko features compositions influenced by Afrikan spiritual and traditional songs, gospel and jazz music. Ngqaqu's influences include Moses Molelekwa, Bheki Mseleku, Richard Bona and Christian McBride, among others.
Stories about Music in Africa is an ongoing project of the Pan African Space Station, produced with the kind support of Pro Helvetia Johannesburg with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
