Closer Look At Fins | Deep Dive

Hi everybody welcome to the deep dive, today I’m looking at fins. Because, they come in a thousand different styles and surely, by now it’s fairly academic which would be the best right? I mean, hundreds of thousands of divers diving every single all around the world. Why haven’t we found the most efficient fins design and just filtered out the rest?

Well, everybody is different, and every dive is different. So, we still have a wide variety of styles for a divers needs. Most divers start off with a good all-rounder design and then either specialize and have a few pairs of fins for different needs or branch out to something exotic and just stick with that. But, let's take a good look at fins and features and what they do…

I have been using US Diver ROCKETS for Scuba diving and Snorkeling for the last 45 years and I have tried out many different styles and brands ... ROCKETS still RULE !

in about 2005 my fin was bitten by a large triggerfish - for hard plastic he left some knarly teeth marks, this is my favorite feature of my fins, i would never replace them

favourite fins? My underwater rugby fins! For scuba diving: the harder the better since I have the leg power.

I used the Cressi Thor EBS for about 15 dives. Felt like I was kicking and kicking and not going anywhere. After a dive where we had some current, I decided that enough was enough and bought the Apeks RK3 insted, and I've used them for the last 11 dives. It's like day and night. I use a lot less energy and air using the RK3 fins. Wish I had known the Cressi Thor was that bad before I wasted my money on them.

So glad YouTube put this video in my recommended again, lost wifi and couldn't recall the channel name. This is a gem of a channel and I am super stoked I found it. Great explanation, main reason I got my ScubaPro jetfins was the insanse amount of propulsion.

I really appreciated this posting. I have my favorite fins but was happy to learn about all the others and what makes them a good fin for others.

i got a pair of Mares Avanti quattro with 6 years of extreme use (rubber straps get broke just in march of this year, after being carried and travel those almost 7 years) its scrached, but definitely a REALLY BOMBPROOF FIN, really comfy, lot of kicking power, really maneurable ones, and 1 pair of Apex Rk3, thoose was really great to, fast ones, pretty nice tec looking, and i used a lot for cave dive at Cenotes in Mex and wrecks, in fact, after been using it i changed back for my Mares and i get into a easy wreck and i was hitting the corridor a few times (same weight but diferent lenght to the RK3), i tryed Split fins and the Seawing novas ... i felt like no power against currents, so soft piece of rubber, . nice Post! Cheers from Colombia

I have a pair of Beuchat Aqua Bionics and a pair of Oceanic Vipers for my travel kit (light, but you can still generate quite some trust).

I have two pairs, one for lap swimming (to keep my legs in shape) and regular diving and a second much stiffer pair for dry suit and current. Neither are name brands.

I agree color doesn't do anything. But then there is the design feature. In automotive sport slapping flames on your car does make your car go faster. I think this will also transfer into diving. Paint some flames on your fins and you will go faster. Tell me what is your idea on this topic.

i'm surprised that rubber ratched straps still exist. i had them for years and switched to bungee(inexpensive to do this) it was so difficult to get them off while trying to get on the boat.
