Ok eldritch pumpkin horrors aside, this is actually a problem I have with it too. Most people say they "wanna live like Little House on the Prairie" when "everything was simpler." And as someone who read all nine (yes 9) books as a child and was obsessed in a way only an autistic 8 year old can be, I can confidently say YOU DO NOT FUCKING WANT THAT. For the love of god please believe me, you don't. They literally almost died like once a month. They almost froze or starved to death every winter, they came face to face with cougars, wolves, and bears, Laura's sister got scarlet fever and went blind, and that's just off the top of my head. Also most people are not taught the skills to be self sufficient and run a homestead. It is 24/7 work, 365 days of the year, to keep a farm or homestead running. Your cottagecore dream is dangerous as hell and takes so so much time and energy compared to modern life.
