As great as all this focus on pressure is and CSF dynamics, Dr. Mike Williams, a recognized specialist in hydrocephalus at UW in Seattle (a neurologist), highlights that hydrocephalus is a brain disorder (and injury) and not a CSF disorder even though clearly CSF function is a defining issue. Does this change the treatment in any way? Maybe not but the perspective of focusing on brain injury - thus the emphasis on regular follow up with a neurologist rather than just a neurosurgeon - is so important. Hydrocephalus does injure the brain so only responding to the CSF functioning of a shunt is not enough.

Ive had the subarachnoid screw put in to monitor my pressure after a car accident in 1982 that's how they determined i needed a vp shunt march 22 1982.
