The Rohingya people are a stateless ethnic group, primarily Muslim, originally living in Myanmar's Rakhine State. Before the 2017 turbulence around 1.4 million of them resided in Myanmar. Eventually over 740,000 Rohingya were forced to flee to neighbouring Bangladesh and settled near Cox Bazar forming the largest refugee camp in the world. They are often regarded by journalists and media as one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.
