History will be made next month in Tokyo when the first openly transgender athlete competes in the Olympic games. The move has sparked a broader debate about whether transgender athletes should be allowed on teams of their choice. Carol Ewing Garber, a professor of movement science at Columbia University, joins CBSN's Elaine Quijano to discuss.

Blessings and peace to all LGBTQ humans, but GTFOH with this BS.

I wish you all the the love and kindness you deserve as a living being, however this is unacceptable. A line has to be drawn somewhere.

This is so many kinds of WRONG, UNFAIR, AND SOME MIGHT SAY IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL ALL OVER THE WORLD. MALES ALREADY HAVE A HUGE ADVANTAGE IN SORTS

I'm not ignorant. I'm a collegiate swimmer. I have experience in the pool that you don't, training, competition, biological performance am so discouraged by this conversation and for the lack of room for a cisgender woman at the conversational table. If I challenge or critique, I'm labeled as transphobic and ignorant- which is, in itself, ignorant. There is no room for thoughtful conversation, or room for lived experience. What a shame. We've lost the ability to discuss a difficult issues well.

BY HER STANDARDS THE WORLDS FASTED MAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPETE ON BOTH SIDES AS LONG AS HE BELIEVES HE IS...OR WANTS TO BE A WOMAN!!!SMFH

This lady must have been isolated and sheltered her entire life. She really said boys and girl are on the same level playing field in middle school. Imagine a girl on the football team as a running back, or wrestling team. A fifteen year old boys soccer team BEAT the reigning National Women’s soccer team. Imagine co-ed UFC.

1. More upper body muscles
2. More bone density
3. Larger hearts
4. Smaller pelvic bones
5. More twitch muscles
6. Males have more advantage in sport than females. It’s not an all of nothing issue. Testosterone is not the end all be all.

7. Save female rights and sports.
8. Vote for someone else. Get Biden and Harris out of office

I am for people being whatever they identify as. But this scientist did say this athlete does have a slight advantage. I think at this level, where people train so hard to get there, they should compete against others that have the same chances to win. it shouldn’t be allowed.

I mean, this whole debacle just threw years of debate of inclusive sports trough the window, when a trans woman joins women's sports divisions they dominate. People are just too afraid to say the why. Long story short, trans should have their own category. Its not trans hate its reality, it isn't fair, it's not just a group saying it, its the women that have to compete against these athletes, they should have the final say.

And to imagine people pay thousands of dollars to be “taught” by people like this in the Universities.

The scientist offered no science. The "reporter" has all the p.c. jargon down. "Assigned at birth"??

I believe this. I'm not the most educated in science, but to me, if you argue trans women have no inherent advantage over cis women, you have essentially argued to me that cis men have no inherent advantage over cis women and therefore we shouldn't have teams separated by sex/gender/whatever.

Why aren’t transgender men dominating men sports??? 🦗 I don’t want my daughter who is a stud softball player competing against a man or god forbid losing her scholarship to a man. If these individuals are elite athletes then they should have been dominating their sports as a man or woman before transitioning.

I'm a female athlete that started competing at the age of 6. I trained year round for years and had the opportunity to compete for a swimming scholarship to attend college. There were 4 slots. 2 for men and 2 for women. I won one of those spots and went to college on an athletic scholarship- which is the only way I would have been able to go. If I'd had to compete with a M-F trans athlete- that had also trained for years, and competed at that kind of competitive level, I wouldn't have won that scholarship. I support trans people- and I also support the right for biologically born women to compete against other biologically born women. It's infuriating that I'm considered transphobic because I want women to compete against equal opponents. I support trans people and their right to identify and live as they are. I wish trans people would support biologically born female athletes, and support them as they strive to compete on an international level with equally matched opponents. Patriarchy is Patriarchy is Patriarchy.
