This was a perfect scene.

My best friend had taped this song back in the 80s and we didn't know who sang it but we wore it out, cruising and listening to it often. My buddy passed away and the tape was lost . Then out of the blue I got into some Roxy music and rediscovered this song again. 🎵 such a great song

Interesting that How I Met Your Mother introduced a whole new generation to this. I heard this late night on the 102.7 WNEW FM. NY 35 plus years ago. Had to call the DJ a week later to find out what the name of it was. I remembered what time it played, some of the lyrics and she was able to tell me. You chould & had to do that back then. No Shazaam. There's still a song or two I never found out who it was. One of my all time favorites

Such a great meaning to this song, beautifully illustrated by HIMYM. Mother of pearl is so shiny and perfect on the outside, but it's not real pearl. In fact, sometimes, it's better for various reasons. Sometimes, you find a mother-of-pearl girlfriend. She's amazing. At the same time, don't you just know it, you find another girl who's 'perfect'. But that doesn't matter one bit. You don't want perfect; you want Robin. Hence, "Mother of pearl, I wouldn't trade you for another girl"... Sob

When I bought this album "Stranded" many years ago when it was first released, 1973? This was the jewel on side two. It was such a strangely beautiful track that I just could not get enough of it. The poetry of the lirics and the captivating music just got a hold on me and never let go.
