Balmoral Castle Tour: The Queens Scottish Castle

While Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle may be the most well-known of the Queen's royal residences, the Monarch has been going to Balmoral Castle every year for her summer getaway.

Located in Royal Deeside, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Balmoral Castle has been in the royal family since 1852, after Prince Albert bought it.
The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, famously visited the residence every year during their marriage. However, 2021 marked the first time the Queen spent the summer there as a widow, having lost Prince Philip in April 2020.

Balmoral Castle is set amongst acres of lush green countryside and the nearby River Dee.
As you would expect from a royal country residence, it is isolated from any noisy neighbors. However, it has the village of Crathie at a convenient six miles away, and it is located just under two hours away from Inverness.
The royal family residence was initially purchased by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband. Deeside was reportedly recommended to the royal family for better weather.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away in April 2021, not April 2020 as mentioned.

Did you know that Prince Albert & Queen Victoria first arrived at Balmoral on 08 September 1848. Prince Albert loved this place becos it reminded him of a village in Germany & Queen Victoria found it to be a place of calm & peace. This made them buy this property. It is the same calm & peace that Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II sort in her final days & to remin

You had me at no noisy neighbors and beautiful countryside. It would be something to see under a full moon, too. They talk about how great the pyramids are (and they are), but you have to marvel at these castles and cathedrals of Europe.
My thoughts and prayers are with the British people and Elizabeth II family at this time.

As stated in the video, Balmoral Castle and Sandringham were privately owned by the RF. When Edward VIII became King, he inherited the 2 properties. When King Edward VIII abdicated he did not turn over the 2 properties to his brother, King George VI, who was now King. Instead, King Edward VIII made his brother (George) purchase the 2 properties for 300, 000 pounds----which was a lot of money back in the day. It became a bone of contention between the two brothers.

Such a tranquil setting.Wish I had the finance to be able to stay over in one of the cottages at Balmoral. Can see why Queen loved it so much.A complete get away from the public eye.

This seems really like a true home, since Albert purchase it for his family, and had a direct hand in building many of the changes. It is a true family home.

It's interesting that King Charles III, as he is now known, is thinking about opening Balmoral to the public as a museum to honor his mother, the late queen. I believe it will become even more of tourist attraction.
