As I understand it the US Government had a fiduciary duty to oversee the citizen's Social Security and Medicare funds until they nationalized the fund in order to use those moneys during the Vietnam War. Is that correct?

Corect me if I'm wrong, but does that mean a publicity traded company has to act in thier shareholders best interest, even if it means having to do harm to others that rely on the company?
