Today I wanted to provide an update on the latest stock market position after a rollercoaster of a week in the stock market with Trump tariffs and more! I wanted to shed some light on whether the stock market declining in this fashion is normal, and provide some insight into what i’m doing with my investment portfolio currently.

20 years ago, input £5000 in a s&s ISA. Then the 2001 crash due to twin towers happened. My investment went down immediately to £3500. I was gutted. My hard-earned cash 😢. A few years later it had recovered to the original £5000 investment. My partner, who had a similar investment - cashed his in as soon as his investment rose to its original value. I left mine alone. Never touched it at all. It's now worth £36000.

Why is the FT that size? In 1712, a tax on printed paper was introduced. This was charged on every sheet. Newspapers lowered the tax payable by printing on larger sheets. It finally came to an end in 1855 but for some reason certain newspapers kept the broadsheet layout.

I think it’s best to sit and wait until the Vix is about 20-25. There’s too much uncertainty and this is NOT normal market conditions. The market could track sideways or down for a year. I personally want to see more direction and clarity and will sit on 4.6% interest, just being the lay person.

I remember the credit crunch of 2008-9 however I can’t remember the swings that are happening on a daily basis the Dow Jones goes from 3000+ points to -1200 points this is happening on a regular basis, so when you say normal I don’t think so.
