He appeared on an episode of WKRP in Cincinnati, rocked this song and made me a believer for sure; those bass notes are exceptional.

I met Randy in LA IN 1989. He taught me to play Stand By Your Man. I've been playing it at gigs ever since.

It was my 11th birthday and my parents bought me my own radio. This was the first song I listened to on it. It took me 34 years to find this song again. What a wonderful night tonight is!

I always thought that Axton deserved more credit as a singer and songwriter. He is in that top tier of great artists.

Dang I miss Hoyt. He was my 2nd cousin. Always loved seeing him & his Mom Mae Boren Axton. They were both great songwriters. He wrote the Pusherman, Joy to the World & my GrandAunt Mae at family reunions. She wrote Heartbreak Hotel. His Daddy could sing as well. Miss them all. 💙🎸

Not only was this man an excellent song writer and singer, but he was a helluva actor. Multi talented man.

In the UK we don't get to hear much Country and Western but my Dad was always a fan and had a lot of records. This song was my favourite of all of the tracks in his collection. Every time I listen to it I always want to know the cat's stories about the dog.

Extraordinary talent. Borderline genius.

And what a voice.

I was 9 years old driving my dad home from a bar in the backwoods between Arkansas and Oklahoma when I first heard this song.

One of the best lines ever in any song, "Yeah, the dealer was a killer, he was evil and mean and he was jealous of the fire in her eyes, he snorted his coke through a century note and he swore that Boone would die"

Bouncing along in my dad's 64 truck Greenie, old songs blasting through the window on our way to New Braunfels straight down purgatory road. The back way is much better with Mom not around.❤😊

Hoyt had a reoccurring role in early Bonanza episodes, he played a wayward troubador. He sang (often from jail) and even did some duets with Pernell Roberts (my favorite Cartwright son) who also had a great baritone voice himself.

It's just after midnight. This song from my childhood popped into my head. Had to pull it up, and hear it again. It's been a long time! Few people know it today! Still a favorite! RIP Hoyt! You are missed!
