Watched the 1937 movie "Stella Dallas" and towards the end of the movie Stella puts on this record (no singing). The reference escaped me when I saw this movie in the 1980s. Stella was basically telling her daughter that she was "common" just like the St. Louis Woman.

I wonder if Billie Holiday could have put the kind of heart & soul into her music had she not been such a troubled person. Sadly she lived what she sang. There will never be another like her.

Back then people worked hard, people didnt have to look perfect, people told it how it was, people were more active and expected less of a helping hand. Racism wasnt a big problems, nor was mass murder or school shootings. People feared god and respected one another, treated eachother like brother and sister. Im young and i can see that
