3D Printed Explosively Formed Penetrator

Explosively Formed Penetrators are basically shape charges that are designed to throw the penetrator over a longer distance. The geometry of the liner is different than traditional conical shape charges which allows for greater range. Now, explosively formed penetrator is a mouthful, so they are more commonly known as EFPs. We have tested a lot of different designs, but we have developed a neat formula to make 3D printed ones. In this video, we demonstrate a test we did on a current EFP prototype. We were rather pleased with the results of our explosively formed penetrator.

That... was NOT a small hole, as one would expect with an explosively formed penetrator jet. I am not only interested in how that was achieved, but also what explosive was used, since the brissance/ blast wave velocity will be critical for that performance.

When the insurgency in Iraq started using these we came across a convoy hit by a large one. It basically sent a superheated piece of metal through the humvee it hit's door and created shrapnel out of it inside the cab.

Liquified everyone in the back seat, cut the gunners legs off, killed the driver and a-driver from pressure (I'm guessing, I couldn't see any visible blast injuries).

These things are the stuff of nightmares
