How can you guard your heart when you like someone?

Denying your feelings is not the way to guard your heart. It’s not a sin to like someone.

Liking someone, however, often leads to getting hurt because people often move past accepting their feelings and into assuming their desires will come true. Proverbs 13:12 states, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick . . .”

So to guard you heart when you like someone you should accept your feelings for your crush while fighting the urge to assume you will be together one day.

You have to base your feelings in the facts of the relationship rooted in reality rather than basing your feelings on the fantasy you have created in your imagination.

For a guy, the thoughts would be - I wish to be close to her and protect her, with the guard around his heart powered by the thought of her, but if she breaks that then that area is permanently damaged, it may get patched up but still has breaks, so the next time he likes another girl then her placement would be in a different place behind that shield, too many times getting hurt and he has been left with breaks in his heart with no place for someone else, so he becomes bitter.

His thought process is like the womens thought process when destroyed as many times, they relate that pain to ALL the opposite gender, regardless of the innocent ones in their wake.
