Love the anti static precautions, suprised the card worked at all after that. My gtx 680 sc signature came with the backplate and the better foam style packing, including anti static bag. Only the reference card logos light up green.

The reference design is produced by many different companies, and they can be bought with or without a backplate.

Not necessarily. Rear exhaust cards help cool the case. At least in my experience with them, they stay pretty cool. Eliminates a case fan.

I eliminated that problem. My personal set of 680 FTW's are watercooled. But in the client rigs I've built, the reference design 680 FTW or SSC has performed well within what I would consider acceptable temperatures while under stress.

thank you very much for your reply :) at least it wasnt a random swearing comment so thank you for being polite :) i personally prefer to have the 7970 because in england i could pick one up OC for £322 which would be a lot cheaper than a 680 and they pretty much perform the same and due to new technology in the cards the amd 7970 actually does use less power i believe and has less heat as it has a custom fan design, hence why i like it so much :)

thats pretty good i couldnt pick up one for as cheap as that but the difference between the two is minimal, plus the 7970 i can get is a ghz edition so its like the same anyways :)

Just to let you know they are backwards compatible, so you do not NEED a PCIe 3.0 board.

The performance difference is negligible. I have built more than 1 rig with 680's and one rig with a 690 using both gen 2 and 3 boards, and the difference in bandwidth affects performance <5%.

Lol I got my EVGA GTX 680 2GB for $410 NEW from eBay....Just got to look around mate, but you won't need it with the 7970 which is a great card
