This is just an awful, often patently false, summary of the filibuster. The point of the filibuster is to ensure bi-partisan support of bills. The Senates ‘job’ is to be slow and inefficient so that not every whacky bill each side tries to cram through gets passed.

The filibuster: It didn't stop any pro-corporate policies or military budgets from getting passed within a divided government. But now, it's the only thing stopping a supermajority from getting anything done for you.

The filibuster does exactly what both teams want it to do. It absolves them of responsibility for passing the policies that they actually want, and gives them an excuse for why they can't pass any policies that voters want.

Yes, every time I go to vote and I have to show my ID I feel so angry. Why oh why must I show who I am? It's horrible. I just don't think I can go through it again. It's traumatizing. The amount of energy I expend reaching in to my back pocket is probably killing a million mitochondria. We have got to get rid of the voter ID law because it's destroying democracy and mitochondria!

The "For the People Act" isn't for the people at all. I've read it. Laws should never be judged by the title or "intent". You have to judge a law by this question: Can this law be used to further corruption?

The For the people act puts the federal government in charge of states voting and takes away the ID requirements by requiring nothing more than a check mark on an online form. Can this power be used for by the federal government to make up a bunch of un-verified votes to pass something they want or put someone in power that the people didn't vote for? Yes.... This law would be a gateway law into being like Venezuela. None of the people in Venezuela like Maduro but somehow he got 96% of the vote? This law allows for that. I'm very very much against it. I like the Anti-Corruption Act that RepUS used to push but not this one.

To end the filibuster is a very important part of checks and balances!! None of this makes sense. What new voting laws are so horrific that they should end a tradition in the senate that is Almost as old as America itself? Nobody has gotten rid of it because it protects both parties in season.

Yeah I think it's just you. You are very partisan. If Trump had the majority Republicans in the house and senate, you'd hope that the filibuster was there. And you'd have Ted Cruz complain about the filibuster saying that government should work for the people.

A filibuster is nothing. But when the government is over 50% paid off, any silly reason to stop bills that could help the people will do, whether it is in any way related to reality or not. There is very little integrity in the Senate. Just fire the whole Congress, so all the bills they are passing every day for the rich and big business won't get passed, either.
